Stomp is one of my favorite groups that there are out there. They use different objects around them to make music such as broomsticks, pans, garbage cans, and many more. Most of the music is in a percussive manner and really shows how to use everyday items and turn them into music.

I have seen Stomp twice now and let me tell you, it is a one in a lifetime experience. Within the first few minutes of the musical, you are immediately in the zone of the music. From the first instruments that you hear, new ideas, images, and music comes into your mind. If Stomp used the same instruments that you hear on the radio, I still feel like it would be about the same. It is amazing the music that they make through their use of household items. The pounding of the drums sounds so much better when you hear it from that old pail in your house. The use of these new items make for an upbeat, lifting, non-boring experience.

I would say though, after a while, you will start to realize that most of their songs work around the same beat. I believe that the musical is easy for people to relate to though using the standard beat and the 4/4 time. Stomp has something so great going for them to where the Musical will be something unforgettable for you to see. I believe they will continue to grow and add new melodies and instruments to their lineup.

There are other groups that started before Stomp that had the same sort of noise that made music. Some used drills, chainsaws, the radio, and others to use random sounds throughout their songs. These bands though did not keep a crowd tuned in and they ended up going by the waist side. The same types of songs do play throughout the musical, but overall, Stomp will capture you and make you a believer and a lifelong fan.

Since Stomp seems to be more structured, their following has a wide base. The musical will take you into the living room of where the music is being made and give you an entire different outlook on music in your home. The next time you arrive in your kitchen, you just might think of that household broom in a different way. Stomp the musical is a must see and will be a new standard of musicals for here on out. Do not wait any longer, go and see it today.

Are you looking for a life changing family activity that is fun for all ages and will impact your heart? If so, Joseph the musical will delight both young and old. This true to life musical is based upon the Biblical story of Joseph. With a theme on forgiveness done in holly wood style you won’t be disappointed.

The story begins with Joseph being betrayed by his brothers. They are very jealous of their young brother and are tired of hearing about his dreams. After being sold into slavery Joseph is asked by Pharaoh to interpret his dream. Joseph predicts a drought and famine and is highly honored by Pharaoh. But things get sticky from there as Joseph remains righteous and faithful even when once again betrayed and lied about. The story will hit close to home when it comes to family relationships and drama. The story is fast paced, easy to relate to, and seems all too real.

The setting is just wonderful. From the moment your walk into the theater you feel as if you have left the outside world. It even smells wonderful. There is a pre show you can view while your tickets are being picked up. If you get hungry you can also purchase treats before the show or during the intermission. The seating is comfortable and you can see pretty much wherever you are seated at. Life animals, stars in the sky and even Joseph flying through the air is easy to view from all angles. The set is done in true Hollywood fashion. They have done the show right.

So often musicals lack something. But in Joseph they have hit the mark. The actors are superb. The story line not only sticks close to scripture but is absolutely well done. It has humor, drama, a true climax and an ending that will impact your heart for always. The songs fit in perfectly and only add to the great acting. The singers are extremely talented and dance just as well. The costumes fit the time frame and are as beautiful as the set. Honestly, the entire production was flawless.

How often can you attend a show like this and have all aspects be so well done. And on top of that received a message that can change your life. Without going to busy New York or fast paced Hollywood you can find exitement and joy by viewing this broadway quality production.

The Lion King is one of the best musicals out there. An amazing cast utilize excellent choreography mixed with fantastic singing to produce a fantastic musical experience. The musical follows the character of Simba. Simba, son of Mufasa, is set to take over as king when his father dies. This father/son dynamic plays a large part in the story.

For those who enjoyed The Lion King movie, the musical is sure to be a delight. The musical uses the same charm and innocence of the movie while giving the audience an even more intimate view. One of the movies most amazing scenes is the stampede scene and the musical does an amazing job capturing this high tension moment in the story.

While Simba is growing up, the story shows his development and advice from his father Mufasa. Mufasa is the wisest lion that exists and is teaching his son lessons on life and how to be a fair king. When Simba’s Uncle Scar learns of all the advice Simba receives, he becomes angry. Scar does not like the fact that Simba is going to be king and would rather be king himself.

Scar uses his childish jealousy, an interesting motif as the older Scar is more childish than the younger Simba to concoct a diabolical plan. He has Mufasa killed and blames his death on Simba. While Simba is distraught at his father’s death, Scar uses this time of grievance to cease control of the kingdom. Simba runs out into the wilderness for some of the more interesting scenes in the musical.

Simba meets Timon and Pumbaa. Timon and Pumbaa have a very carefree attitude towards life. This attitude is soon adopted by Simba who needs to escape from all his troubles. The attitude of a worry free philosophy is summed up by the phrase, ‘Hakuna Matata.’ With this phrase as their motto, they live a very stress free life with no responsibility. Consequentially, they never accomplish anything of substance in their life.

Simba realizes the pitfalls of this lifestyle through some wise guidance. With the help of this guidance, he realizes that his rightful place is as king. He comes back to the kingdom to confront the evil Scar. After Simba exercises his demons, he is able to overthrow Scar and take his place as rightful king. The Lion King the musical is an amazing story with valuable life lessons.

It opens with a bitter Valjean’s release from prison after 19 years. His parole officer, Javert, gives him a yellow ticket that brands him as a convict, and Valjean meets a bishop who urges Valjean to redeem himself. Valjean decides to start over with a new identity, even though he will have to break his parole, earning him the enmity of Javert.

Eight years later, Valjean is now a wealthy mayor and factory owner. During an inspection, he breaks up a fight between his factory workers, and we are introduced to Fantine, mother of the illegitimate Cosette. The factory foreman, angry that Fantine rejected him, fires her. Desperate to protect Cosette, Fantine turns to prostitution and ends up in a hospital where Valjean finds her and promises to look after her daughter.

Valjean crosses paths with Javert when he rescues a man trapped underneath a cart. Javert remarks that the mayor reminds him of a man named Valjean, who is awaiting trial. Valjean can’t let an innocent man be arrested, so he reveals his true identity, but begs Javert to give him time to save Cosette before he returns to prison. Javert refuses, so Valjean escapes and rescues Cosette.

After another nine years, Cosette is grown up and meets a student named Marius. Many Parisians are upset because General Lamarque, who protects the poor, is near death. Marius and another student, Enjolras, prepare for the coming revolution after the general dies. Valjean narrowly escapes Javert, who is spying on the students, and prepares to take Cosette into hiding once again, forcing her to part with Marius.

Act II spans the two-day students’ uprising and its aftermath. During the first day of fighting, Valjean learns that Marius loves Cosette, and goes to the barricade to find him. Instead he rescues Javert, who has been exposed as a spy, and tells Javert where he lives. The students prepare for the next day, and Valjean prays for Marius.

On the second day, Enjolras realizes that he and the other students will die, but refuses to surrender. The soldiers overrun the barricade, but Valjean arrives and carries the wounded Marius through the sewers. He meets Javert, and again begs him for some time so that he can save Marius. Javert agrees, and discovers that because Valjean saved his life, he can’t arrest him. Javert commits suicide by throwing himself in the river. Marius doesn’t know who saved him, but Valjean tells him that he will be leaving to protect Cosette. Marius and Cosette reunite and are married, then discover Valjean’s heroism and search for him. They find him on his deathbed in time to say goodbye.

Described by the writer as a musical for people who hate musicals, Blood Brothers is one of the longest-running works of musical theater in history. It is the story of twins separated at birth who find their lives intertwined despite social station and divided because of it.

It is also the story of two women: Mrs. Johnstone and Mrs. Lyons. Johnstone is a poor single mother of seven who discovers that she?s pregnant with twins while Lyons, her employer, is a childless woman who desperately wants a son.

In what seems to be serendipity the two women decide to split the twins up. But complications soon arise and Johnstone tries to take Edward back.

Playing on Johnstone?s superstitions, Lyons quickly explains that if two twins are separated secretly at birth they can never know that they are part of a pair. Were they to find out, they would both die instantaneously.

It is here that the narrator steps away from his traditional role and takes an active part as Johnstone?s fear and conscience with the excellent song ?Shoes upon the Table,? where he explains that from this moment forward she will be haunted by the idea that disaster is right around the corner.

The rest of the story follows the lines of tragedy as both women are troubled by the fact that the boys seem inexplicably drawn together despite their best intentions. Each grows into a very different man: Edward becomes a councilor with the benefits of his wealth and class while Mickey, the other twin, eventually becomes embroiled in a robbery, sentenced to seven years in prison, and addicted to antidepressants.

In the end Lyons? prophecy comes true and- due to a misunderstanding about Mickey?s wife and a careless gesture with a gun- the two men lie dead on the ground after their mother tells them the truth. They died as they were born: together.

And the play seems to make the argument that they are the same: their songs overlap, they have the same thoughts, they are the best of friends, and they even fall for the same woman. It is only the circumstances of class that shaped their eventual destiny.

But Blood Brothers is foremost a study of love; that of a mother, a brother, or a wife. And in the end, no matter your opinions on the subject, it cannot fail to leave you in tears.

Music defines a generation. As it is something that shapes an individual’s identity it becomes engraved with the styles and sensibilities of the time, with the most popular music effectively tapping into a social consciousness and current events.

Take the 1960s. Music from this period is easily identifiable and had strong links to the hippy movement that was concerned with world peace. This meant that there were countless political songs and other songs seemingly inspired by less than favourable activities (such as drug use).

Fast forward to the eighties and much of the music is identified with synthesisers and other electronic types of music with the fashions of the time reflected in the clothing of musical artists.

Punk music is also something that became popular due to the cynicism people held for authority in the form of the government, therefore the songs were anti-establishment.

So what music defines today’s generation? It is hard to say. Perhaps it will only become obvious in the future when forms of music have replaced today’s. Suffice to say, music is something that is routed in society and is part of the cultural makeup of the planet.
